Google Play QR code generator

Android shoppers scan a Google Play QR code to install your app, and this generator builds one from your play.google.com link. Use the play.google.com link, not an in-app one, and the code works for everyone who scans it.

Editable codes are saved to a free account. Two are free to try.

Turning your listing into a Google Play QR code that works everywhere

There is more than one way to point at a Play Store listing, and only one of them is safe to put in a printed QR code. Get the wrong one and the code works from inside the Play Store app but fails for everyone else.

Below: which link format to paste in, where the package name comes from, and a quick check before anything goes to print.

Only one link actually works as a Play Store QR code

Google's own developer documentation is clear about which format is for the web and which is only for use inside an Android app.
Which Play Store link format belongs in a QR code
FormatWhat happens when it's scannedUse it in a QR code?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=...Opens the listing in a browser on any device, and hands off to the Play Store app if it's installed.Yes - this is the one to paste in.
Just the package name, e.g. com.bloomvale.timerNot a link at all - a camera reads it as plain text, or a browser tries to search for it.No - it needs the full play.google.com address around it.
A Play Store badge imageA graphic asset meant for a webpage or an email signature, not a scannable payload. No - it's artwork, not a link.

Finding the link for your Android app QR code

The id= value in a Play Store link is the app's package name - a reverse-domain identifier like com.bloomvale.timer, set once when the app is first published and not normally changed afterwards. You do not need to type it out by hand: open the listing at play.google.com, or from the Play Console, and copy the full address straight from the browser bar into this generator's link field.

A quick check before you print

Don't print

market://details?id=com.bloomvale.timer

Print this

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloomvale.timer

The market:// address only means something to the Play Store app itself; a phone's camera or a non-Android scanner has nothing to open it with.

Don't print

A link copied from a screenshot, cropped part-way through the address.

Print this

The full address copied straight from the listing's own address bar.

One missing character in the id value points at a different app, or an error page.

Google can change its store URLs and app pages; the linked documentation has the current format.

Google Play QR code questions

Open the listing at play.google.com, or find it from the Play Console, and copy the full address from the browser bar.

Yes - it is the app's package name, and even one missing character points at the wrong app or an error page.

Only inside an Android app. It is not a general web link, so leave it out of a printed or public code.

Any camera reads the code, but the link only installs something on a device with the Play Store - pair it with an App Store code for iPhone users.

Yes, with a dynamic code - swap in another play.google.com link in your account and the same printed code opens it.
