Chrome extension QR code generator
This Chrome extension QR code generator turns your extension's Chrome Web Store link into a code people scan to find it. A phone can open the listing, but only a computer can install the extension from it.
type to generate
Scan it once from the screen before you print a batch. Keep it 2 cm or larger on paper, and leave the white margin around it.
Do more with it
Same code, more placesSave this design - colors, corners, logo and frame - and put it on any code later. Saved in this browser.
One value per line, or paste a CSV. With two columns the first is the file name and the second is the value. Every code uses the design you set up above.
Lay the code out on an A4 page with cut marks, ready for the printer or a label sheet.
Turning your listing into a Chrome extension QR code people can use
Paste your extension's Chrome Web Store link and the code opens the same page anyone would reach by searching for it. The one thing worth knowing first: a phone can open that page, but it can't install from it - only a computer can.
Copy the right link for a Chrome Web Store QR code
While viewing your extension's own page, copy the full address from the browser bar - it looks like chromewebstore.google.com/detail/focus-timer-lite/bdfhjlnpacegikmobdfhjlnpacegikmo, a readable name followed by a 32-character ID. The name is cosmetic; the ID after it is the part actually looked up, so paste the whole address rather than shortening it.
Why this isn't an instant extension download QR code on a phone
A phone camera opens the listing page fine, but Chrome on Android and iOS can't install extensions at all - that's a platform limit, not something this code can work around. From that page, mobile Chrome offers Add to Desktop instead, which queues the extension to install next time the visitor opens Chrome on their computer. Worth knowing if this code will mostly be scanned on the move - a caption saying so saves people a wasted tap.
Two mistakes that make this code fail
A link to chrome://extensions, or the bare 32-character ID with no domain in front of it.
The full chromewebstore.google.com/detail/... address, copied whole.
Nothing else opens the listing page.
The code printed with no context, next to a 'download now' line.
A short caption instead - 'Scan on a computer to add this extension'.
Saves a scan that would otherwise lead nowhere on a phone.

Chrome extension QR code questions
The listing page opens, but there's no install button that works there - only Add to Desktop, which queues the install for their computer.
From the address bar while you're viewing your extension's own Chrome Web Store page.
No - it's cosmetic, like the rest of the address. The 32-character ID after it is what actually gets looked up.
No - the listing only exists once the Chrome Web Store approves it, so the link only works from that point on.
Yes, with a dynamic code - point it at a different Web Store page in your account and the printed code follows.
Yes - scan it yourself first and check it lands on the right listing. A five-second check catches a mistyped link before it goes on every printed copy.
