YouTube QR code generator

This YouTube QR code generator turns your channel handle, or a channel or video link, into a code viewers scan straight into the YouTube app. Paste a video link with a timestamp and the scan starts the video at that exact moment.

Editable codes are saved to a free account. Two are free to try.

What a YouTube QR code can open

One field takes either a channel handle or a full link, and the generator treats them differently: a bare handle gets built into a channel address, while anything that already looks like a link is used exactly as pasted. That second case is what makes a YouTube video QR code possible, timestamp and all.

A QR code for YouTube channel visits, done in one scan

Type your handle and the generator strips any leading @ and builds a plain youtube.com address from it - an ordinary web link, not a special app-only format. That is why any phone's own camera app opens it straight away: no YouTube sign-in needed on the scanning end.

What a handle turns into
https://youtube.com/@rowanvaletalks
  1. https://youtube.com/@ the fixed part the generator adds - a normal address, so it opens in a browser tab and then hands off to the YouTube app if one is installed.
  2. rowanvaletalks the handle exactly as typed, minus the @ - the generator adds its own.

Point a YouTube video QR code at the exact moment that matters

A handle only ever points at a channel, so a video needs its own link: copy it from YouTube's Share button and paste the whole thing into the same field - since it already starts with http, the generator leaves it untouched instead of treating it as a handle. Tick Start at in that same Share panel first and the copied link carries a timestamp too - a link like youtu.be/rowanvaletalks-ep4?t=95 opens the video 95 seconds in, skipping straight past the intro.

A bare title or slug is not a link, so the generator treats it as a handle and builds a channel address that goes nowhere useful.

Handle rules worth knowing before you print

YouTube handle character rules
RuleWhat YouTube allows
Length3 to 30 characters, not counting the @
CharactersLetters, numbers, underscores, hyphens, periods and the middle dot ( ยท )
Start or endCan't start or end with an underscore, hyphen, period or middle dot
CaseNot case-sensitive - RowanVale and rowanvale are the same handle

If a handle you want is taken, YouTube also blocks anything that looks like a URL or a phone number, so close variants using underscores are usually the way around it.

Where to put a YouTube QR code

Product packaging

Northwind Makers prints their channel handle on a box insert next to the assembly video, so a confused buyer lands on the tutorial instead of a search results page.

Event recap poster

After Ember Fest, the recap poster carries a code that opens the highlights video at the moment the headliner walked on, not the start of a 40-minute upload.

Speaker slide or card

A conference speaker's closing slide carries their channel handle so the room can subscribe before the next talk starts.

A handle rarely changes, but if the video behind a code will change later - a new episode each week, say - a dynamic code lets you re-point the same printed code instead of reprinting it. Two dynamic codes are free to try.

YouTube QR code questions

Yes - paste the full channel link and the generator uses it as-is, the same as it does with a video link.

Yes, a Short's link works the same as any other video link: copy it from the Share button and paste the whole thing in.

No - the link is built from the handle at the moment you make the code, so changing your handle breaks a code already printed. Make a new one after the change, or use a dynamic code to avoid a reprint.

Yes - anyone can make a code for any public handle or video link, the same as sharing that link any other way.

That is normal on some phones - youtube.com links open in a browser first and then offer to continue in the app if it is installed.
